15:21:03 <Oracle> The New Booster: As of now, the new booster is in playtesting. I've received more than 150 pages of feedback from the playtesters and will be going through the cards and making some changes. After that, I'll send them out for another round of playtesting.

15:22:12 <Oracle> I had originally expected that the new booster would make it out sometime late this year. I don't believe that's going to happen, now. The Pokemon craze has caused some real printing problems, and I'm sure they're not going to stop printing Pokemon to start printing Spellfire.
15:22:44 <Oracle> I still believe the booster is going to come out, though, which is why playtesting is continuing.

15:32:20 <Oracle> It's hard to say. The original plan was to make each game (it's more than just Spellfire) 50-60 cards so we could combine the cards onto the same sheets and thus save a lot of money on printing and cutting costs.

Until we sellm through all the 3rd Edition, I don't see it happening. Again, the only thing that might change that is if the new booster caused a resurgence in Spellfire interest and sales.

That makes releasing new products for it very difficult, as distributors are less likely to order something new when they still have piles of old product or neded to liquidate their exisitng inventory.

I can not see how it would be popular enough because some people would only be able to get the newest edition. They would however know about the existance of the four previous editions, and not be able to get them. It would akin to reading Sojourn, and knowing Homeland and exile existed, but not being able to read them. Yes Sojourn is self contained, but if you know about the others, it makes you want to read them.
